University group attempts to redesign hospital gown

Researchers at North Carolina State University are embarking on redesigning the typical hospital gown, which many patients find too flimsy and revealing, reports The News and Observer. The style of hospital gowns does not necessarily affect the care patients receive while in the hospital; however, hospital gown design, which often includes an open back, can lead to dissatisfied and embarrassed patients who are uncomfortable during their hospital stays. Additionally, some patients wear multiple gowns, which increases the amount of laundry hospitals have to do on a daily basis.
New Jersey's Hackensack University Medical Center already uses different styles of hospital gowns, which include pants and tops, as well as hospital gowns by designer Nicole Miller.
