University of Chicago hospital to revamp new ER program

After much scrutiny, the University of Chicago's (U of C) emergency room (ER) has decided to revamp its plan to relocate those patients who could be treated at an area clinic, instead of the ER, reports The Chicago Tribune. A committee will be reviewing the policy and will feature increased participation by the department of medicine.
The two-year old policy titled the "Urban Health Initiative" attempted to redirect patients to other community health facilities, after they had received care. Recent changes were made to the policy to allow for this redirection before patients received care in an effort to save the hospital money. However, that decision has come under fire, and the American College of Emergency Physicians called the decision close to "patient dumping."
