The March issue of Briefings on Patient Safety covers a few topics. We discuss The Joint Commission's announcement that there will be no new National Patient Safety Goals for 2010, and their more recent announcement that they will continue to survey for medication reconciliation, but not fault facilities for being incompliant with the standard. We also look at how the economy has affected patient safety programs amidst hospital budget cuts throughout the country. The other stories concern using simulation training to improve patient safety and your facility's culture of safety, and how one hospital used its electronic medical record to facilitate better, more complete handoffs by creating an electronic hall pass.
