Tawam Hospital, located in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has launched the first successful patient safety outreach program in the UAE, according to Gulf News.
The program, which is launching in association with Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, is scheduled to run throughout 2009. The first part of the program included a wide variety of educational activities and awards, is already completed.
According to Gulf News, Steve Matarelli, chief clinical officer at Tawam Hospital said that "the safety campaign will educate staff members on how to effectively use [the Joint Commission's] international patient safety goals…to improve patient safety."
To help heighten patient safety awareness, Tawam Hospital also played an Arabic version of the Johns Hopkins online video about patient safety to patients and staff members in waiting areas.
