CMS’ no-pay conditions are difficult for the agency to enforce internally

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) no-pay conditions have arrived in the hospital industry as of October 1, but CMS, it seems, is having a harder time managing the new policy that was expected, reports Fierce Healthcare. Hospitals must now prove that any hospital-acquired infections were present on admission if the hospitals want to receive payment for those patients who contract such infections. However, despite the year's time that CMS had to prepare, it is finding it difficult to track the and code the new issues, and also decide what exactly constitutes "present on admission."
