The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is set to launch a national infection control action plan, reports Fierce Healthcare. This comes after the Government Accountability Office published a report criticizing HHS for not having any centralized infection control initiatives. The plan includes four common hospital infections:

  • Catheter-associated urinary-tract infections
  • Surgical site infections
  • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
  • Clostridium difficile (C. diff)

The plan specifies that five groups will be created to address these infections. These groups will be centered around prevention, research, information systems, and outreach.
