American and Middle Eastern hospitals join effort to improve patient safety

Hospital leaders from the United States, Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, and Kuwait establishing a network to coordinate efforts on reducing medical errors, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Leaders met at the Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem to begin the collaboration, which aims to share best methods to prevent various different medical errors and hospital-acquired conditions, including ventilator-associated pneumonia, adverse reactions to medications, pressure ulcers, and healthcare-associated infections, according to the Post.

"Throughout the world, some hospitals typically perform better in certain areas of care than other hospitals," Rulon Stacey, MD, told the Post. Stacey is the president and CEO of Poudre Valley Health System in Colorado, and one of the organizers of the new network. "Our project will compare and contrast what each of us does. This will identify ways to improve," he added.
