Boston's health department is creating a service that city residents can call to find a primary care physician, reports The Boston Globe. The service, a byproduct of a special task force, is aimed at providing patients with primary care doctors who are accepting new patients. The move is in part a response to retail stores opening clinics. Menino said that if there were more primary care physicians, patients would not need to turn to these retail clinics.

One proposed idea is to have new medical research facilities create space for primary care physicians. The referral line is scheduled to be in use as of Labor Day.
