UK: MRSA rates down; C. diff rates up for elderly

Although rates of MRSA bloodstream infections have dropped by 11% between January and March 2008, putting the hospitals on track to reach a government goal to cut MRSA rates in half since 2004, Clostridum difficile (C. diff) rates have risen 6% in patients over 65 in the same quarter, reports the Daily Mail.

The new figures show C. diff levels are rising for the first time after a trend of steady declines.
