An editorial in the June 24 New York Times urges doctors to switch from paper to electronic technology. The editorial comes after a poll taken by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that 4% of doctors used fully functioning electronic record systems. Many other industrialized nations have a majority of their doctors using this technology. In addition, President Bush has called for the widespread use of electronic medical records by 2014.

The editorial says that those doctors who are using electronic records improved their care of patients and avoided medication errors.
