Australian government preparing for possible doctor strike

More than 100 anesthetists, surgeons, and emergency doctors in South Australia have handed in their resignations after nine months of failed salary negotiations with the government, reports ABC News (Australia).

The Australian Medical Association says the government will not be able to secure adequate health services when the resignations take effect in two weeks. The government plans to keep three hospitals open, possibly with the use of contract services. Health Minister John Hill says the government may also send patients to the private sector or cancel surgeries, reports ABC News.
