UK: Shortage of nurses affecting infant safety

A shortage of neonatal nurses in Britain may be putting both mothers and infants at risk, reports the Daily Mail. Each neonatal unit has three nurse vacancies, representing a shortfall of 2,300 nurses across the country.

Rising birth rates have increased the problem, reports the Mail. Overcrowding neonatal units have been linked to greater risk of hospital-acquired infections, and the number of patient transfers has risen.
