AHA supports NQF's proposed framework for patient care that is culturally competent

In a June 9 letter, the American Hospital Association (AHA) endorsed the National Quality Forum's (NQF) draft report, Endorsing a Framework and Preferred Practices for Measuring and Reporting Culturally Competent Care – Part 1 which was open for comment until June 3 by the general public and June 10 by NQF members. The framework aims to deliver a set of preferred practices that defines culturally competent care. That there are disparities in patient care according to racial and ethnic differences is apparent and the AHA says data collection around this topic should be organized.
Part of the framework recommends the use of the Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET) Disparities Toolkit, offered free of charge on the HRET Web site. To access this site, click here.
