Canada’s patient advocates call for disclosure of C. difficile outbreaks

After various outbreaks of C. difficile across the nation, including one that claimed the lives of 62 patients at Ontario's Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, patient advocates are calling for government to force hospitals to inform the public when an outbreak occurs, reports the Globe and Mail.
The president of the Ontario Coalition of Hospital Unions attributed the outbreaks to downsizing and contracting out of cleaning services. C. difficile is an infection spread through contaminated surfaces, hands and mouths.
