Hong Kong to accredit public hospitals
Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, May 13, 2008
China's government will implement an accreditation system for public hospital to improve quality and reduce errors, reports the South China Morning Post.
The specifics of the program, including who will accredit the hospitals, are still undetermined, though officials are looking at major accrediting bodies, including the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and the Joint Commission, according to the Post. Currently, public hospitals only are required to perform internal assessments.
Hong Kong's 44 public hospitals will undergo assessments in the areas of patient safety, patient records, and staff training, among others.
