Singapore's Ministry of Health to regulate high-risk treatments

Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, April 1, 2008

The Ministry of Health will provide guidelines on which doctors can perform high-risk cosmetic surgery, such as liposuction, reports The Straits Times.

The guidelines will also outline what training is necessary and where the operations can take place. Currently, physicians with various backgrounds can perform such procedures in operating rooms or clinics.

Officials say they will study the benefits of some controversial cosmetic surgery to determine whether they will be banned, according to the Times.
