Unclean surgery tools sent back to British hospitals

Thousands of hospitals in Britain that have been outsourcing the task of sterilizing surgery equipment are canceling or delaying surgeries because equipment is coming back dirty, missing, or broken, reports The Observer.

A survey by the Association for Perioperative Practice found that the problem causes hospitals to cancel surgeries or wake anesthetized patients up after realizing too late that equipment is dirty, missing, or mislabeled. Delayed turnaround times and fewer procedure have also been reported as a result of the outsourcing, reports The Observer.
