Thai Ministry ignores cancer drug patents

Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, March 18, 2008

In an effort to increase public health efforts, Thailand's new health minister has urged the nation's government to ignore patents on several cancer drugs, frustrating efforts of big pharmaceutical companies, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The ministry spokesperson said the decision was made in an effort to lower costs of medicines for Thai residents, according to the Journal.
