One of the U.S.'s foremost health information collaborations, the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), released its annual report about its efforts in 2007, says the Centre Daily Times. Formed in 2004 as a means of helping facilities improve patient safety and keep caregivers up-to-date with the most pertinent information related to their patients. The IHIE's two major programs include the DOCS4DOCS service, an electronic messaging service that delivers clinical information to caregivers, and the Quality Health First program, which aggregates physician data in an effort to provide better patient care.

Some of the most notable information includes:

  • 36 hospitals are now part of the IHIE after it was expanded out of central Indiana
  • 1,000 primary care physicians participated in the Quality Health First program
  • IHIE collaborated with The Department of Health and Human Services to promote value-driven healthcare.
