Alberta raising standards to thwart superbug

Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, February 5, 2008

Health officials in the province of Alberta, Canada, have set standards to stop the spread of Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) after outbreaks have plagued its inner city hospitals, reports the Edmonton Journal.

The new standards took effect February 1 and include guidelines for sterilizing equipment and managing MRSA outbreaks.
