EC.02.06.01, element of performance (EP) 1, which requires hospitals to keep interior spaces safe for patient care and services, is widely known as a catchall standard for a variety of problems. It’s where problems with ceiling tiles often are cited by Joint Commission surveyors—even “something as simple as a stained ceiling tile”—and can become major issues for healthcare facilities.
