Q&A: Updating the Notice of Privacy Practices to reflect use of electronic prescription services
Physician Practice Insider, May 5, 2015
Q: Should we update a Notice of Privacy Practices to ensure patients are aware that their ePHI may be gathered from appropriate sources (e.g., electronic prescription services) to provide care and treatment to the individual without their written permission under the Treatment, Payment, and Healthcare Operations (TPO) section?
A: Yes. It is appropriate to update the notice to inform the patient that information from other sources (e.g., electronic prescription services) may be used in their treatment without obtaining written permission to do so.
