Aiming to help future nurses become more culturally aware, Rochester, NY-based Nazareth College recently obtained a grant to expand the focus of its study abroad program for nurses to include a special opportunity with two universities in Europe.
According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the U.S. Department of Education awarded Nazareth's Department of Nursing $408,000, to be received over the course of the next four years, to support a dual-degree program that will allow students from Nazareth to study abroad. In turn, the European Union awarded $408,000 to each of Nazareth's partners, Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Finland and Semmelweis University in Hungary, to fund their students' opportunities to study at Nazareth.
The student exchange program will begin in the spring 2008 with a total of 24 Nazareth students trading places with students at one of the two European universities. Students will gain a dual-diploma that will be recognized in both the U.S. and in Finland and Hungary.
