Playing hot potato sparks fiery fun

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 6, 2007

Games are a fun way to conduct discussions and promote education about the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP). One game to try is "hot potato," which focuses on rapid-fire answers to questions related to the MRP. To start, use a ball in place of the hot potato and have employees sit in a circle. A nurse manager should ask a question to the group, set a timer for 60 seconds, and toss the potato to one person, who will then quickly try to answer the question and then toss the hot potato to someone else. Once the next player has caught the potato, ask another question.

The object of the game is to not get stuck with the hot potato when time runs out. Players get rid of the hot potato by answering questions correctly. If the time runs out while a player has the hot potato, he or she is eliminated from the game
