Online nursing degree program creates great expectations in Tennessee

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, November 5, 2007

States across the country are going to great lengths to try the curb the critical nursing shortage they are facing. Tennessee is going online.

The Tennessee Board of Nursing recently approved a Board of Regents program that will offer an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree as early as next spring. The program will be offered at nine community colleges, and will include 360 online hours and 630 on-campus hours. The hope is to have 150 new graduates by the fall of 2010.

According to The Jackson Sun, a federal report has projected a shortage of 35,000 nurses in the state by 2020.
