Six tips to evaluating a job offer

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, October 15, 2007

When you are faced with a job offer, consider all options and make the best choice for you. You'll need to look at the following:

  • The organization. What is its reputation? Does it have a solid background or has it been plagued with financial difficulties and/or high employee turnover?
  • The facility. Is the location good for you? How long is the commute? What is the atmosphere? How is employee morale?
  • The job. Is the job what you are looking for? Are the job duties in line with your background, experience, and goals? Would you enjoy the work?
  • Pay and benefits. Is the pay comparable to other facilities in the area? What benefits are offered and what is the employee portion of the cost? What perks are offered?
  • Opportunities. Does the facility encourage professional development? Are there advancement opportunities? What about tuition reimbursement?
  • Career ladder. Does this job support your long-term career goals? Will it keep you heading toward your goal, or will it take you farther away?
