Although some lecture is usually necessary in any classroom, it's useful to include learning methods that allow learners to actively participate. Group activities are often welcomed by members of the Baby Boomer, Gen X, and Gen Y generations if they believe they will have fun while participating. Those from the Veteran generation may be a bit more hesitant. Prior to initiating group activities, make sure the learners have the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively participate. Remember, you don't want them to be embarrassed in front of their colleagues. Here are some suggestions for involving your learners in the learning process through group activities. Possible activities include:

  • Debate
  • Panel discussion
  • Role playing
  • Demonstrations and return demonstrations
