In an effort to bring cutting-edge advancements to its facility, a Missouri hospital has implemented several types of new technology to achieve quality patient care.

The 143-bed St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO, has adopted a form of filmless digital medical imaging called the Picture Archiving Communications System. This allows staff members and physicians to retrieve and view images from ultrasounds, CT scans, and MRIs from computers throughout the facility, from their offices, or even from home.

Additionally, the hospital's emergency room has begun using electronic medical records, which allow the clinician to electronically document patient information and track their data through the treatment process. Hospital officials say that this has reduced the length of patient stays in the ER.
