Communicate the code of ethics
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, October 9, 2007
Ethics are widely discussed and firmly entrenched at organizations pursuing ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation, and are a key part of Force of Magnetism 6: Quality of care. At Veterans Affairs Pittsburg Healthcare System in Pennsylvania, Agness Nossek, RN, CNS, staff nurse in behavioral health, ensures that the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses is widely known by staff nurses in the following ways:
- A copy of the Code of Ethics is framed for each nursing unit
- A colorful poster is displayed on each nursing unit that informs staff nurses, patients, family members, and friends that they can request an ethics consult at any time
- Yearly educational fairs are conducted in which ethics information is displayed and questions are answered
