Meet patient educational needs

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 18, 2007

Healthcare organizations should have an established process to ensure patient education needs are identified and addressed and that these educational plans are culturally sensitive. Consider the following examples:

  • Discuss the patient education program of the organization
  • Describe how patient educational needs are identified and the process in place to meet those needs
  • Discuss the cultural diversity of the patient population and how these cultural differences are addressed in patient education programs and materials
  • Provide examples of the tools created and used for patient education, including those developed for specific populations
  • Describe educational programs aimed at developing the cultural competence of nurses to support them in their role as patient educators
