Three Mississippi colleges are expanding resources and services for nursing students by utilizing a training grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The three colleges that make up the Mississippi Corridor Consortium (Northeast Mississippi Community College, East Mississippi Community College, and Itawamba Community College) are hoping to increase graduation rates by training 1,395 nurses over the course of three years. School officials say the funding will help the schools establish scholarship programs and will also provide academic and support systems for students.

Additionally, the schools plan to launch mentorship programs that will assist high school students in their quest for nursing careers, as well as expand counseling services to current college students.
