$100 million pledge set to launch nursing school

A record $100 million dollar grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation will establish a nursing school at the University of California-Davis campus in Sacramento. The largest gift ever received by the school will be doled out over 11 years, with $21.2 million being set aside to help the school develop curriculums and recruit personnel and staff during the next 24 months.
The goal is to admit the first class of students in fall of 2008 into the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Administrators hope the new school will help curb the growing nursing shortage in the state.
The Foundation was established by Gordon, the co-founder of Intel Corp., and his wife in 2000. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for future generations.
