Airport-style check-in arrives at Georgia health center
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 14, 2007
Self-service check in has moved beyond the airport to become the latest convenience offered to patients. The Georgia Heart Center-a service of the Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG) in Macon, GA-recently installed a MediKiosk, a self-service kiosk for patients to use during registration for their appointments. Patients arriving at the heart center check-in at the MediKiosk by swiping a credit card or entering their name. Just like check-in kiosks at the airport, MediKiosk asks patients to view and confirm their appointment details, but it also allows patients to electronically sign consent forms, make co-payments, and update demographic, insurance, and medical information, which is then sent directly to MCCG's file system. According to MCCG, an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient in 2005, MediKiosk allows the hospital to streamline the registration process, improve workflow, collect co-pays at check-in, and improve service and patient satisfaction.
