An Arkansas college recently saw sky-high retention rates after the first year of its new, accelerated nursing program.

Officials at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, AR, noted that the program's retention rate stands at 92% one year after the program-named Access Nursing-took off in the spring of 2006.Twenty-four students were enrolled during the program's first year, and 22 are expected to graduate with an associate's degree in nursing this month.

Once students have completed 30 hours of prerequisite classes, Access Nursing takes students through the nursing program in 15 months when it would normally take about 22 months via the traditional program.
