A Texas university is planning to kick off a new nursing program next year.

Pending approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the program at Texas A&M Health Science Center in College Station, TX, will offer a four-year bachelor's degree in nursing, with plans to enroll 40 students initially. Program coordinators aspire to attract 250 students within 10 years.

The program is in response to the state's nursing shortage; officials say they hope for the state's nursing schools to quadruple their output of RNs by the year 2020.
