Ohio hospital seeks better communication with patients

About 20% of all patients in the United States are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have limited English proficiency, according to Language Access Network (LAN), a Columbus, OH, company that provides video interpretation services. The company has been contracted by Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH--an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient--for a new service called MARTTI (My Accessible Real Time Trusted Interpreter), which provides video/audio interpretation service. MARTTI will provide Miami Valley Hospital patients with interpretation services in Spanish, American Sign Language for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, and more than 150 other languages.
