Ambulatory clinics part of the shared governance model
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 10, 2007
The ambulatory clinics at Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG) in Macon, GA--an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient in 2005--are included in its shared governance model. According to Meryl Montgomery, RN, MSN, Magnet Recognition Program® director, some of the facility's ambulatory clinics have the strongest councils. For example, the women's ambulatory, wound care center, and children's health center clinics all have unit council chairs and are interdisciplinary and very effective, says Montgomery. MCCG has unit councils for each department or combination of departments and each department works within the infrastructure to design a council that best meets their practice and patient care participation needs.
