Improve staff safety
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, June 26, 2007
In addition to patient safety, staff safety should also be a priority for healthcare organizations and programs that focus on improving the safety of the facility's environment for staff, patients, and visitors are important.
Environmental rounds on nursing units are one means of identifying environmental safety issues (e.g., medical equipment or furniture that is in disrepair and must be taken out of service or tripping hazards such as boxes and electrical cords). Use of unit-based safety representatives, who have been trained on environmental safety issues to maintain vigilance in providing a safe environment, is another strategy to address this element.
