A recent report by the Connecticut Hospital Association advises state officials to focus on nurse recruitment and retention efforts, noting a predicted state shortage of 22,400 nurses by 2020.

The report outlines the association's continuing efforts to market recent changes in the nursing profession, such as improvements in the workplace. The association recommends expanding the pool of nursing faculty, establishing career ladders, and raising public awareness of careers in healthcare.

Additionally, educational incentives are suggested in the report, such as scholarship programs and loan forgiveness. The association also recommends funding for pilot programs.
