What makes your organization unique?

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 29, 2007

All organizations have unique characteristics so use this to your advantage in your documentation. Develop a theme from your evidence showing how your facility is unique and use your evidence to demonstrate to appraisers what these unique characteristics are. Show that not only has the organization met the criteria for ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation, but that it's an extraordinary organization worthy of this award.

One strategy for developing a theme for your written documentation is to look at your mission, vision, and values, and ask yourself the following six questions:

  • What are we known for in the community?
  • What special awards has our organization received?
  • Are there specific positive themes that have emerged from our patient satisfaction survey results?
  • Why do doctors bring their patients to our hospital?
  • Why do nurses like working at the organization? What makes nurses stay?
