Nursefinders, Inc., a company that provides medical staffing services, recently announced the results from its semi-annual Nursing Trends Survey. The survey questioned 1,700 nurses located across the United States about their motivation for becoming a nurse, significant changes in the nursing profession, and their advice for nurse graduates. Forty-eight percent of respondents answered that they entered the nursing profession to help others, while 25% gave the reason as their passion for the medical field. Forty-three percent of the nurses surveyed said they have no plans to leave the profession, but 38% warned they are considering leaving because they feel powerless to affect change. Forty-nine percent reported they feel they have more respect from hospital staff than in previous years; but 74% said "there are more patients to care for with fewer nurses." Finally, the nurses' advice to graduate nurses is to treat patients like family, be a patient advocate, and enter the nursing field for the right reasons.
