Addressing nurse faculty shortage
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 15, 2007
According to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, almost 43,000 qualified applicants to baccalaureate and graduate nursing school programs in 2006 were turned away, primarily due to insufficient numbers of nurse faculty. But Johnson & Johnson, a manufacturer of healthcare products and related services, is using its resources to help the nurse faculty shortage. After launching the Campaign for Nursing's Future five years ago to enhance the nursing profession's image and to recruit nurses and nurse faculty, Johnson & Johnson is expanding its campaign to put a stronger emphasis on recruiting and retaining nurse faculty. The Campaign for Nursing's Future has now launched a nurse faculty television advertisement and a Web site (http://www.campaignfornursing.com/) that addresses career training and professional development opportunities to retain nurses and nurse faculty. In addition, the campaign will present print and interactive advertising that features real nurses in action, and another Web site, http://www.discovernursing.com/, contains links to more than 2,000 accredited nursing educational programs, funding resources, nursing scholarships, and more.
