Celebrating National Nurses Week
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 8, 2007
National Nurses Week--a week to recognize nurses for their quality of care and dedication to patient needs--kicked off on May 6 with National Nurses Day and will end on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is credited as the founder of the modern nursing profession. The American Nurses Association has dubbed this year's Nurses Week with the theme "Nursing: A Profession and a Passion." One facility celebrating Nurses Week is the Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG), in Macon--which received ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation in 2005--but it started its celebration early, on May 4, by recognizing its 199 nationally certified nurses at a luncheon. The luncheon also announced the activities that will take place on May 9 to celebrate MCCG's nurses, which will include a nurse's art gallery, unit/council exhibits, an award ceremony, and door prizes.
