Spreading the word
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 8, 2007
It is important to be able to clearly articulate to physicians, staff nurses, the night shift, and even housekeeping the intent and desire for ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation. This can help with the pursuit of designation in terms of raising excitement, but it is also helpful for when appraisers visit and find that all staff know what being a MRP status hospital means to them and how they were involved in the designation. The following are nine ways to spread awareness about the journey to receiving designation:
- Include updates in facility newsletters as to what MRP status means, and your facility's journey toward reaching that status
- Create a cabinet that displays anything that is helping along your journey to designation
- Create "think tanks" where staff can brainstorm about evidence-based practice ideas, stories, nurse involvement in the community, etc.
- Send weekly e-mails highlighting one of the 14 Forces and what it means
- Offer regular updates from the project director
- Have the CNO walk around units and hand out candy-this can be a great way to get staff nurses and others to come and listen to what the CNO has to say about designation
- Create "Make it happen" pins. Georgetown University Hospital nurses wore pins that said, "Georgetown nurses know that I'm making designation happen."
- Post informational fliers in the bathroom
- Make use of every bulletin board to display updates about the journey
