Grand Canyon University hopes to fill void in Arizona nursing

Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, May 7, 2007

A recently launched 20-month program at Grand Canyon University (GCU) is pumping more graduates into the Arizona nursing pipeline.

Thanks to a partnership with the Hospital Council of Southern Arizona, GCU is working with a nine-hospital consortium that will help reduce the shortage in the state and help chop some of the long waiting lists at other Arizona nursing schools. The consortium will cover nearly all of a student's expenses-$30,000 from the total of $31,200-in exchange for a three-year working commitment upon graduation.

Twenty students enrolled in January, and officials hope the school can graduate as many as 60 new nurses annually in the future.
