To improve employee retention and recruitment rates, as well as overall job satisfaction, an Indiana hospital has developed imaginative scheduling strategies and other job perks.
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, ID, is offering nurses a "power weekend" scheduling option. This would allow clinicians to work 12-hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays and have most weekdays off, leaving time for other obligations.
The hospital also offers onsite child care, sick care for children, and regular employee meetings and focus groups. Additionally, officials are making efforts to accommodate the schedules of employees pursuing advanced degrees.
