Healing hospital award

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 24, 2007

Baptist Healing Trust, an independent organization devoted to promoting a culture of loving care in hospitals, recently announced its top 10 healing hospitals in America for 2006--three of which are ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipients. The non-profit hospitals were recognized as "healing" hospitals because they seek to create cultures where "loving care" is practiced--following tips and examples from Erie Chapman's book Radical Loving Care: Building the Healing Hospital in America--and because they care for nurses, who in turn provide excellent care to patients. The three designated hospitals honored--St. Joseph Hospital in Orange County, CA; Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH; and Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN--were each celebrated for their loving care culture that supports nurses, and St. Joseph's was noted for its practice of having the CEO working once a month on the floors with the frontline staff.
