Treatment of the estimated 120,000 people nationwide who develop Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) costs billions of dollars each year. And the price of MRSA infections isn't only calculated in dollars, but also in lives, with an estimated 5,000 people lost annually. In reaction, several national healthcare organizations are developing initiatives to help hospitals take on MRSA infections.

Standard approved disinfectants will kill MRSA. A hospital should regularly decontaminate equipment that moves from room to room, such as:

  • thermometers
  • blood pressure cuffs
  • pulse oximeters
  • IV pumps
  • stethoscopes
