Four tips to implement nursing research on a low budget
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 10, 2007
Implementing a research program with limited resources, and little funds to employ a nurse researcher, can sometimes leave non-academic and/or smaller community-based hospitals searching for tips on how to develop a research process. The following list provides four ways to become productive when creating a research agenda on a low budget:
- Establish relationships with nearby colleges because Master's students need sites for their research projects and this will ensure the hospital's participation in these projects
- Build a requirement into the project terms that all results from the study are immediately reported back to the nursing staff
- Create research poster presentations about important topics that concern direct care nurses and discuss these topics at staff meetings
- Implement nursing grand rounds and get direct care nurses to participate. Have them identify a clinical issue, research the issue, and then gather the staff at a luncheon to have the nurses present their findings
