In an attempt to reach potential nurses at an earlier age, a New York hospital has developed a high school program where interested students can learn all about a career in nursing.

During the past year, White Plains Hospital has brought nurses and other guest speakers to White Plains High School. Once a week, about 20 students at a time meet with the speakers during their lunch hour.

The program is intended to ease the transition from high school to nursing school while providing internship opportunities to students. The hospital also hopes the students will look favorably on the facility once they become new graduate nurses looking for employment.
